Alien has Landed

Hey there pugs and peoples. Thanks to everypuggie and person for your kind words about my Midi Kitty. We knew we didn't have a lot of time left with her, but it's still sad. I's gonna miss her a lot.

Um, Mom said she didn't want me to be alone so she had already made some arrangements to get me a little sister. I don't needs a little sister - I's good just me and the Mom. But, she went and gots me a little sister anyways.

We's trying her out I think. Maybe I can talk Mom out of keepings her, but she's being all sweet to Mom and buttering her up. I think she's trying to take overs my house!

Here she is. Her name is Tallulah Babygirlpug but Mom calls her LuLu.

LuLu came from SEPRA too, like me.

She looks all sweet, but I's keeping my eye on her.

Everything was kinda ok, and then she tooks my spot.

I's gonna keep you posted on this situation.

Midi Monday

It's Midi Monday but we have sad news to report. Midi T. Kitty crossed the rainbow bridge some time last night/early this morning. As many of you know, her health had been declining due to a hyperactive thyroid. I consider myself very lucky to have shared almost 15 years of my life with her, and privileged that she chose me to share hers. She was my baby, my heart, my light on the darkest of days and my best friend. I will miss her terribly.

Rest in peace, my sweet Midi Kitty. I will love you forever.

Midi Monday

The two four-legged bloggers have agreed to let the human post today.

Have you read The Art of Racing in the Rain? I know, it's a dog book and this is supposed to be Midi's post, but the book (or the small part I read) serves as a good intro to today's post.

I'm going to post for Midi today because I feel like I need to share what's going on with her, with me and with Harry. OK, Harry's oblivious - so it's pretty much just me and Midi in this one.

I read the first few paragraphs of the book while waiting to meet someone at Starbucks several months back. It was sitting on the shelf of available reading material, so I picked it up and started to read. I haven't gone to the library or the bookstore to get the book because I'm not sure I could finish it. I teared up immediately, so I'm thinking maybe it's not such a good book for me to read given my delicate emotional state lately.

Basically in the beginning of the book (written in the dog's voice), the dog is dying and has made a plan to get his person to put him down.

The past few weeks I've watched Midi waste away before my eyes. Yes, she's been getting thinner all along (hyperthyroidism), but it's gotten much worse very recently. She has gone from eating two to three cans of Fancy Feast each day to maybe eating one. She also sleeps. A lot. I can tell when she does get up that she's become weak although she can still jump onto chairs to get to her food.

When I hold her (which is often), I can feel her heart beating very fast. She's become much more affectionate lately - but that's what she does in the winter. It's all about body heat :-)

She is still Midi though. She's alert. She doesn't seem to be in pain. She IS eating. Just not as much. I do not know what to do. I don't want to do anything while she is still alert and seems OK. But I don't want her to suffer either. I am a coward about this as I've never had to go through this before. With my parents and "our" pets, sure. But not just me. I would rather her heart just give out and let her go peacefully than for me to have to make a conscious decision.

I feel our time together is short and I want to be the best Mom I can be during the time we have left.

Thanks for listening and I promise to post a silly Harry blog soon.

Midi Monday - Disappointment

Oh my dear friends, pugs and pug sympathizers. I am so disappointed. All of the joy and hope that I felt over the weekend was shattered last night around 8:30. You see, I thought the pug had gone away forever. Yes, most of his belongings remained, but he left Thursday afternoon and did not return for days.

I thought the bed was once again mine!

My sources told me he had gone to some place called Indiana. Isn't that some kind of pug mecca where pugs go to live with their brethren? I had high hopes that was the case.

But, alas. He returned. Today he has done nothing but sleep and snore. Looks like things are back to normal.

I'm sure he'll have lots to bark about tomorrow.

Not Amused

(Note from the one with fingers: Midi Monday is a day late due to my sleeping most of Monday - thank you, tonsillitis!)

Greetings, and welcome to another edition of Midi Monday. First, let me say that I appreciate all of the comments I received last week. It's nice to see so many fans -even if some of you still don't understand why I just can't snuggle with the pug.

I'm sorry to report I suffered yet another indignity this weekend. Instead of just having to deal with Harry, there was a second snorting, heavy-breathing thing with a curly tail running around my home. What made it worse is she wanted to play with me. Her. Play. With ME. Seriously?

Here's what I thought of that.

Can you see the disgust in my eyes?

She even had the audacity to act like she owned the place! Look at her on my sofa!

You can see she had the pug wrapped around her little paw.

I should point out that she didn't just get one of his chew chews out of his toy box, she got ALL of them out.

Luckily the little thing they called "Libby" went home Sunday. Harry has been on his best behaviour with me since then!

Midi Monday

Greetings and welcome to Midi Monday. My feline friend Menace suggested quite some time ago that Monday on this blog be all about me, but today is the first Monday I've been able to bend the human and the pug to my will (at least about this!)

For the one or two of you unfamiliar with me, I am Midi T. Kitty. I've been living with the human for over 14 years now - after I used all my cunning to make her believe I was stuck in a tree and she had to "rescue" me. For all of you cats out there wondering why I used so much drama rather than just showing up on her doorstep, the answer is simple. The rougher the human believes my pre-home circumstances to be, the greater the love and affection (and servitude) she will show me.

We can discuss the unfortunate events that weakened my 14 year reign at another time (pug), but for now let's address some recent accusations.

The pug is trying to gain your sympathy by saying that I will not snuggle with him. I say... if someone put their butt in your face on a regular basis, walked around snorting and sneezing, and dripped water from their face EVERY TIME they attempted to rehydrate; would YOU want to snuggle? I thought not.

I leave you with proof that I'm far cuddlier than the pug and he has lots to overcome before he deserves my cuddles!

Purrs,
Midi

Drama Kitty

Hey there pugs and peoples. The Midi Kitty is trying to hogs all my spotlights again. You may remembers that her thyroid is hyper so she has to take some pills every day. Well, she's started itching and itching and itching. She scratches her ears, her head, her face. She looks like some big, mean cat attakted her.

(That's her before she started scratching)

So, Mom took her to the vet to get her thyroid tested agains and to see if she's got the mites in her ears or something. The vet thinks she might be allergic to her medicines. I says - "don't takes them!" But the vet said she has to take them and take some steroid pills. If she doesn't get better, we's gonna have to find some other way to make her thyroid stop being hyper. The trouble is, Mom says there's nothing else we can do.

They could make her radioactive, but that would mean driving her to Atlanta or Auburn and leaving her for like three weeks (I says "partay"), but Mom says she doesn't think Midi would handle the road trip and it's too much money that we don'ts have.

Then there's surgery, but the vet says probably nobody will operates on her 'cause she's 15 and her heart isn't in the best shape now because of her thyroid.

So, we's sad and we don't knows what's gonna happen. Hopefully she's just itching because of a new food or something and it will go away soon.

Happy Birthday, Midi!

Today is my sister Midi T. Kitty's birthday! She is 15 - by Mom's guestimation. I guess it's really Midi's "Foundya Day". Here's her story as told by Mom:

Fourteen years ago today, I was living in Mobile, Alabama with my BF at the time. We were out playing tennis on a really beautiful spring day and I heard a cat crying. My immediate thought was that the cat was trapped in a tree, so I went looking for it. It didn't take long to find her, she was trapped about four feet off the ground completely freaked out.

At first I thought something must be wrong with her because - otherwise she would just jump down, right? It's not like she was 10 feet in the air. So, my brilliant BF thought that if he poked at her with the tennis racket she would jump down. Nope. She climbed higher. I think it's important to mention at this point that the BF was highly allergic to cats so he didn't really know much about them.

Anyway, I said "Maybe we should call the fire department". So, BF went in and called the fire department while I talked to the cat and tried to coax her down. BF came out a short time later with garden gloves and the news that the fire department doesn't really rescue cats from trees.

Now the kitty's fate was in my hands, so I climbed the tree, picked her up and handed her down to garden-gloved BF. Kitty stayed at the bottom of the tree looking at me - now stuck in the tree (I'm afraid of heights and had a real problem stepping backwards down the tree).

After I finally got down, we fed her some tuna and made an agreement that if I didn't find her people I could keep her - if she lived on the balcony (highly allergic BF). That's exactly what happened. She came to live with us, but since the balconey was no place for a cat 24/7, I asked my boss at the time if she could come to work with me. I was going to school and working part time at a recording studio. He said "Sure, if you name her something related to the studio." Dogwood Recording.. hmmmm. What do you name a cat who is going to work at Dogwood Recording?

MIDI - Musical instrument digital interface - Midi! So, she became Midi the Studio Kitty. She was in promotional materials, played all day in the studio, greeted all the customers, it was great.

My vet figured she was 10 months to a year when I found her, so we called it one year and set April 23rd as her birthday. She's been with me through so much. The very emotional breakup with that BF (and a few others), moving to Birmingham, moving to South Florida, moving back to Birmingham. She's always been there for me and she's unlike any cat I've ever known. She LOVES people and is very social. I'm so grateful to have had her in my life for this long and hope for many more great years with her.

So, Happy Birthday / Foundya Day / Gotcha Day Midi Kitty!

I Dunno Nothin!

Me and the Mom don't really haves any news to report. Mom has been calling the vet all day and this last time they said the computer had a crash and that's why they don't know what's wrong with Midi. Mom's irritated.

I don't knows much about the Chewie either. Here's what his peoples said this morning.

Due to an emergency, Chewie didn’t go into surgery until five. He came out of it fine tho, and is recovering drugged up in a little cage. We went to visit him and his tongue was sticking out of his mouth and his eyes were not blinking. It was so sad. He got a little excited so we couldn’t stay long. He’ll go onto oral pain meds tomorrow and should be a little more responsive. The doctor said he may be severly worse after surgery because of the cyst that was removed, but that hopefully his spinal cord will start to regenerate and he will recover…

So, maybe tomorrow we'll have more news. Midi was extra snuggly with Mom last night. She's milking all this and trying to take away all my attentions! I guess that's OK. I get lots of attentions.

Lots of Nail Chewing

Hey there pugs and peoples. I hopes you hads a great weekend, I knows I did! Yesterday I got to go to Rojo for lunch and then I wents to the kickball. It was lots of fun!

Today is kinda nervous-making. First I wants to ask everypuggie to send special thoughts to my friend Chewie. Chewie's having the surgery on his back today. I knows his brother Le Mops and his new sister Pansy/Lola pug are worried about him. Chewie's blog is one of the first ones me and my Mom read before we started mine.

Second, my sister Midi T. Kitty has a vet appointment this afternoon. Mom is worried cause she's lost weight and now she's showing some other signs that Mom says could mean there's something wrong with her kidney beans or maybe she has the diabeatsies. I dunno what that means, but Mom's not happy. So, I's gonna get left at home by myself for the first time ever this afternoon! I's not gonna like being alone.

So, that's all from us todays. We'll let you know what the Doc says about Midi. Hopefully it's all good cause her b-day/gotcha day is this week and we don't wants anything spoiling it!

I's Not Happy

Last night Mom was putting her clothes in that thing she uses when she goes away from home. I thought maybe we were going on an adveture but she said I's not going. What?!?! Who's gonna feed me? Who's gonna snuggle with me? Who's gonna take me for walks?

I's not happy.

She says she's going to see those Saints play again. I wants to know why can't she watch it on the TV. Why's she gots to go away? Mom says she is going to watch them in New Orleans because nothing compares to seeing them play in the dome. I dunno what that means but I's not happy.

I's going to stay with a neighbor lady that I likes a lot. She gives me treats and butt scratches. Maybe I'll just stays with her furever if my mom is gonna leave me all the times.

SIGH!

But she did get me a chew chew to take with me. I ates half of it last night! Maybe she shoulda gots me more than one!

Oh, yeah and Midi says "Hey". She gets to snuggle on the furry blanket. I don't. I's not happy.

Hopes all you's has a happy weekend. Hope your peoples don't abandons you!

Today I present for your enjoyment, two pictures. One of me wearing a very fashionable cable-knit sweater and one of Midi T. Kitty in the same. I ask you - who wore it best?
